The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. NREL's mission and strategy are focused on advancing the U.S. Department of Energy's and our nation's energy goals.

Hydrogen and fuel cell research at NREL contributes to the growing role that advanced technologies play in addressing the nation's energy challenges. Our hydrogen and fuel cell research draws on expertise across the lab in photovoltaics, bioenergy, transportation, basic sciences, and analysis.  Project teams of scientists, engineers, and analysts focus on hydrogen production, delivery, and storage; fuel cells; technology validation; safety, codes, and standards; analysis; education; and manufacturing.

Additionally, instrumental in advancing the development and use of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies are our partnerships with government agencies, industry, communities, universities, and other national labs.
